As the worst of the summer heat recedes into this year’s memories, we welcome you back to Nerd Nite Tokyo, still at Study Abroad Pub in Shin-Okubo. This month we swing between the concrete and abstract, between the empirical and experiential, between hard numbers and the nebulous wonder of the universe.

Our first talk, by Paul Alexander Helminck, is about how prime numbers make modern life possible. Despite the abstract property of being prime, the concrete applications of these mathematical atoms essentially govern everything we do online. But what does that have to do with dropping your phone or swiping to unlock? Find out more in this primer on primes!

Our second talk swings all the way to the other side, as Hippo Yam talks about what happens when a rocket scientist begins exploring not space, but art. He will speak about U-ART, a creative group that he co-founded, and share with us their vision of creating experiences that help people reflect on the beauty of the universe, and inspire us in turn.

Doors open at 7 PM. Come early and get your drinks and socialize before the show starts at 8 PM!
